Illustration for poster, zine and performance pieces for Soy Division’s music theater project, KIAMAT.

In the Indonesian language, KIAMAT translates to The Day of Judgement. I illustrated several drawings following an outline of the performance for this project. These were then composed into different ideas for the event poster. Later on, a several compositions of these visual elements were laid out as a zine.

These images then become pages of the Kiamat Zine, independently published by Soy Division, along with a poem written by Umi Maisaroh. These visual elements were also later used as shadow puppets during the theater piece. Kiamat was performed in Berlin in April 2022.

From Kiamat’s website:
“Kiamat is a multisensory music theater project initiated by Soydivision Kollektiv and L_KW,  directed and co-produced by Rabih Beaini from Morphine Records. The recent album of the Indonesian experimental music duo, Senyawa, inspires the piece. Kiamat (Day of Judgement), one of the compositions in the album Alkisah, becomes the central theme of this piece.” more information on Kiamat’s website.

KIAMAT is an interpretation of SENYAWA‘s album „Alkisah“

Kiamat Texts:

I speak thee stone in the fire that makes it a hell. Too the water in the estuary that endues heaven. That this is not hold, but for a spell. This is an decree from the mouth of a deceiver.

1. He does not join thee yet suddenly. And neither of thou shall get help. Even if thy treasure is as much as the earth two fold.

2. On that day the heart hath reached the throat. Screams shall loose their sound. The river shall lose its estuary. The mountains shall be devestated. Till they become a scattered powder.

3. When the earth becomes ablaze with light. Then verily none of 'em shall flee from sooth. Neither is thy brother. Neither is thy sister. Neither is thy younger nor older sibling. Neither is thy close relative. Neither is thy distant relative. Yet most people just fight for sooth.

4. And do thou know the appointed time? The inevitable instant. The instant they had forswore. The time when they would dispute with each other.

5. For a soul that shall regret. Hence when disaster hath join. Everyone just hath to wait their turn.

6. A thunderous voice shall be sent. And the wind that endues the heat. Day continues to shine without aye changing night. As a rotting palm tree, they were strewn about.

7. All in the heaven, towards the earth, and that which floats between them, shall be swallowed. Then perish theem. Nay sire. Nay servant. There shall be no heaven. There shall be no hell. There is no good without ill. There is no ill without good. From nought, thou walk towards nought.

I hast told thou the word of the Devil to hell which makes it smolder. Too an angel in heaven whom endues light. That this is not hold, but for a spell. This is an decree from the mouth of a deceiver.
