Ariel Victor Arthanto (he/him) is a Berlin-based Indonesian director, animator and illustrator. He uses drawing as a way to understand the human thoughts, and he is often inspired by the simplicity of daily life. Ariel is also a bit fascinated by repetitions of shapes and bright colors, and how the animated medium can translate emotions effectively.

After finishing his Bachelor of Art in animation from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, he worked as a freelance illustrator and animator in his hometown Jakarta, Indonesia. He has worked for various projects for local and international clients, ranging from editorial, branding, packaging, events, advertising as well as films. In 2016, his short film, The Chosen Generation, was presented among other Indonesian animation/experimental artists in the 30th Image Forum Festival in Tokyo, Japan. His latest film, Annah La Javanaise, a collaboration with director Fatimah Tobing Rony, was an official selection in the Annecy Festival 2020.  In 2019, he moved to Germany and is currently producing his next short film, titled I AM A FLOWER, at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF  in Potsdam.
